Some Weaknesses in Modern Day Youth

 According to UNICEF:

"Youth are the people between the ages of 15 and 24 years."

According to me, this so-called youth can be seen on social media being successful in making money or in being social. But the eyes can't see everything, some things have to be observed.

Some Observable Weaknesses

The disability to control emotions

Yes, this age group of people indeed undergoes hormonal changes and their brains are still developing, so it's natural for them to lack the skills needed to regulate their emotions. I think that that skill comes with experience, and if youth are just stuck in the world of social media, their experiences may be limited; but some youth stand apart from the rest, who have set goals to chase. The more social experiences a person has, the better. But the ability to be able to understand, regulate, and control emotions comes from EI, emotional intelligence. Recently it has been discovered that Gen Alpha is known for having remarkable EI. And the current youth is not from Gen Alpha so it can't be guaranteed that they have high EI, but there's no doubt that some people do have high EI naturally and they have good mental health. So not being able to control emotions, can also lead to extreme situations of self-harm or bad mental health, and other times it has been said that mental disorders are the cause of this emotional instability, such as ADHD.

Peer pressure

This youth has had this feeling of 'wanting to fit in' at one time or another and this leads to youth making wrong decisions, such as joining the wrong group of friends, getting involved in drugs or smoking, and sometimes even crimes. This is all due to the result of peer pressure when youth do anything to fit in and make friends. They forget that true friends are those who accept you for the way you already are.

Uncertainty about their futures

About 33% of youth don't know what they'll do in the future. They're unable to choose the right subjects and end up with bad grades because the subjects were forced onto them. They are unable to discover their true passions due to limited exposure, thus their chances of getting into universities are reduced, and nonetheless, their futures are destroyed.

Although these are just some features I took note of, there are still many other weaknesses in modern-day youth, such as unemployment and unhealthy lifestyles.

Possible Solutions?

In my opinion, the best solution to this is for successful youth and adults to come together and provide guidance to the confused youth. About 47% of students admitted that they were not given personalized advice during career counseling, thus the result is being faced today. Many minorities of youth never even get the chance of career counseling so this right should be granted to the affected by successful adults, as it is their job to guide the young adults who are supposed to be the future of this world. What do you think?

Even more important is that youth need to be given support by their loved ones and should never have to suffer emotional instability, peer pressure, or career pressure alone. They need to learn self-belief and the importance of living for themselves and not chasing after others. Indeed inspiration is available on the internet and sometimes in their surroundings but many youth lose hope too early or don't believe in themselves. So mental health awareness is a big step toward the betterment of our confused youth to help them accept themselves for who they are.
